Initially Bloomberg had a “the show must go on” stance in regards to the New York Marathon.

I have no doubt in my mind this was not out of his desire for the big apple’s ‘symbolic victory’ over Hurricane Sandy, but private concerns of possibly loosing corporate backing of his future election campaign.
Apparently the mayor backed off after recieving tremendous (and well deserved criticism) of his misguided decision.
