Infidelity is painful, and it can happen even in the digital age. With social media, dating apps, and text messaging, online cheating has unfortunately become more prevalent. If you think your partner may be deceiving you online, you need to know the signs to look out for. Here, we’ll discuss some common red flags that might indicate that your partner is cheating online.
1. They’re on their phone – a lot:
If your partner seems to be spending an unusual amount of time on their phone, it might be a warning sign. They could be chatting covertly with someone else through messaging apps or engaging in intimate conversations on social media platforms. If you’ve noticed your partner’s phone usage increasing, try to spark conversation and see how transparent they are about what they’re doing on their phone.
2. They smile when on their phone:
Have you noticed your partner grinning while scrolling through their phone, but not willing to let you in on the joke? It could be that they’re talking to someone else, or looking at pictures and messages that make them happy. While it’s not inherently bad to smile while using your phone, it does raise suspicion when it happens frequently and when they aren’t willing to share what’s so amusing with you.
3. They never leave their phone unattended:
Does your partner take their phone with them everywhere they go, even to the bathroom? This could signal that they’re worried you’ll find something incriminating on their device. It’s possible they’re hiding something, so keep your eyes open for secretive behavior.
4. They have multiple social accounts or even fake accounts:
While there can be legitimate reasons for having multiple social media accounts, it’s also a red flag if your partner is using secretive accounts to hide their identity. This can be a tactic they use to communicate with somebody you do not know of.
5. Their friend list is growing suddenly:
Does your partner seem to have a lot of new friends on their social media platforms, but you don’t recognize any of them? If they are suddenly making new friends in a way that seems out of the ordinary, it’s worth asking what’s going on. The newly added friends could be anyone from ex-partners to secret crushes.
6. They never take calls in front of you and leave the room to talk on the phone:
If you’ve noticed that your partner never takes calls in front of you, or leaves the room to take a call, it might be worth asking why that is. They could be talking to somebody in a way they don’t want you to know about.
7. They stop posting photos of the two of you:
Has your partner stopped posting photos of the two of you on social media altogether? This could be a sign they don’t want other people to think they’re tied down in a relationship or they could be hiding their new relationship from you.
8. Sudden changes in behavior:
If you’ve noticed your partner’s behavior has changed drastically, it could be a warning sign. Perhaps they’re more distant physically or emotionally, or they’re acting more secretive.
9. Changes in sex drive – either increased or decreased:
Have you noticed your partner more or less interested in sex lately? This could indicate changes in their relationship with you, or it could be a sign that they’re getting their needs met elsewhere.
